My New Mossberg MVP Predator

Post by anygunanywhere »

I bought a new Mossberg MVP Predator with the 18 1/2" barrel today at the Wally World in Calallen. It is chambered in .223 Remington.

Bought it for half price - $249.00 plus tax.

I'll be looking for a scope for it. I'll be using it for coyote size critters should any give me the opportunity for a shot. It has been a long time since I bought a scope. If anyone has any suggestions please post away.

An old friend I'm working with found the deal at the Corpus Christi Wally World. He also got a deal on a Ruger American on Sunday. We hauled over to the Calallen store after work yesterday and they had my rifle on the rack. He showed the manager the receipt. Luckily she was just about to mark the rifle down. She put the new price on it and handed it to me. I think they are going on sale nation wide.

I'd definitely snag one at that price. Don't need it, but a nice little scout-length bolt gun that takes standard AR magazines? At that price, what's not to love?

I'm no optics expert, but for a rifle at that price-point intended to snipe ranch varmints, I probably wouldn't want to break the bank with a scope. Nikon makes some decent, low-cost glass for .223s, like their P-223 3-9 x 40mm for around $200, or their ProStaff 3-9 for about $20 less. For something faster, lower-power, with a broader field of view, a Vortex Strike Eagle in 1x6 x 24mm would work at about $330, or even a Vortex Crossfire II 2-7 x 32mm for only about $130. Being thrifty, I'd probably go with the last one if I bought the rifle for $249; it should do the job at a budget price and decent magnification range, and ya always gotta allow for buying rings, too.

Thanks Skiprr. I'll keep an eye on the sales.

:o Were you wearing a mask? Great score! :anamatedbanana
Just this pretty face.

I was surprised that the WM folks worked with me to discount the rifle. She interrupted her work to do it.

If I could find one of these anywhere near me, I'd go buy it right now.
Been looking for an inexpensive bolt gun.
Anyone know of any Wally's still selling firearms near DFW that might have one of these?

Last night I was in my hotel room fondling the rifle. Great trigger. Also, it is chambered for 5.56 Nato which will handle .223. The sales tag said .223 but the barrel says 5.56 Nato. Nice!

As far as having this particular firearm, I'm not sure... but the Walmart at 4691 TX-121, Lewisville, TX 75056 still sells firearms. You might give them a call.

Well that's funny, I just bought ammo there last weekend and drooled over a few of their lever action rifles that were in the case.

I called a few stores and did find one in "reasonable" driving distance that said they had one in stock.... but the guy I spoke with on the phone said they were not marked down to the price in the OP. Said they were "around $500".... The non-specific number leads me to believe he hasn't really given it much attention and MAYBE if I drove there I could make it happen. Big drive, for a big maybe. He sounded confident that they were not marked down to that price, but, Walmart.

Thoughts?

If someone who bought one would be willing to PM me a photo of their receipt, I might make the drive with that kind of ammo in my pocket...
Maybe it's a regional thing in the Corpus area?

Definitely a must-have at $250, but at $500 I'm thinking about a Tikka T3x in .308 for just a bit more.

Any chance you were at the Crossroads location?
Could be that the lady I spoke with was simply misinformed.
:confused5
