My letter was a [typical for me] long-winded defense of the AR15 platform as a takedown rifle subsitute, and a description of the kit I put together with my custom lower paired with a .300 Blackout SBR upper and a Carbine length 5.56 upper (both suppressed) in a covert case from LaRue. I finished up by having a laugh at my own expense and saying that after all that money spent, I was probably going to try and find a .30-30 lever rifle for a truck gun instead — citing a fear of theft after such a sizable investment.

Anyway, I thought that was a kick in the pants! They published another letter of mine a few years ago in response to an article they wrote comparing scout rifle models.You know, growing up in Texas, we used to see lever actions in truck rifle racks all the time, so I get the appeal of the lever gun. I might also consider Marlin's 308 XMLR. The stainless finish would resist the inevitable condensation that would form.
