Movie: H___ or High Water

Post by JustSomeOldGuy »

Had some time today, so I went to see the movie "H___ or High Water" even though I wasn't all that impressed with the ads/trailers for it. I was pleasantly surprised.
- the Texas Rangers carried 1911's
- the story is set in the region around Coleman, Texas (I've been there, so it caught my interest)
- and (legal) concealed carry is a factor in the story
on the minus side, somebody needs to kick the Texas Film Commission; this movie was actually shot in and around Estancia, New Mexico. I've been there too, but there's something just wrong about having NM stand in for us. :nono:

A lot of the movie was filmed in Portales and Clovis, NM. You can almost see Texas from those towns.

To see a movie definitely filmed in Texas, check out "Lone Star," with Kris Kristopherson, Matthew McCanauhey, and Chris Cooper. It's a murder mystery set in a fictional Texas border town and actually filmed in Eagle Pass. A great flick.

I saw this on Tuesday and have to say that I enjoyed it right up until the ending. Without spoiling it I've just never been particularly fond of an ending like that. It came and went so quickly that I couldn't say for sure, but I think that they referred to one of the bank customers as having a concealed carry permit rather than a CHL, but given that it didn't end well for him not sure it makes much difference.

This movie is on my list to watch. The main reason is Jeff Bridges. I have enjoyed many of his movies.

Some of my favorite "set in Texas" and "filmed in Texas" movies are "The Getaway" with Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw.
Or "Sugarland Express" with Goldie Hawn and Ben Johnson.

I was going through Fabens as they were filming the Get Away. They stopped us as they blew the lights off of a few patrol cars.( no actors just stunt and prop men)
