General Chit-Chat Possible?

Post by Take Down Sicko »

Just wondering if there is a room on this forum where we can have general chit chat. What everyone is doing today, what they are cooking for lunch, whats on t.v. blah blah blah. If not, is it possible to have one.

We already have one. It's labeled "Off-Topic".

Yeah, I can announce important stuff like what brand of toothpaste I use and post a photo of my salami sandwich and other important topics like that.

When the dew dries up some, I'm going to mow my grass.

Maybe, I'll post a photo of how much wet grass builds up under my mower deck. It's really interesting.

Yep. The software that runs the Forum, like almost all threaded-message-board software, makes an underlying assumption that conversations will be compartmentalized by individual topics.

The best analogy for our Forum is a room containing several file cabinets. We have Sections like "Day-to-Day" and "Instructors, Classes and Training." These are like individual file cabinets. What they contain are broadly grouped under those headings.

Within each file cabinet are separate file drawers...our Categories. In the "Day-to-Day" file cabinet, we have drawers labeled "Holsters & Accessories," "LEO Contacts & Bloopers," "'How To' Tips," and more.

In each of those file drawers, are collections of file folders, each directly related to the label on the file drawer. Our Topics are the file folders. In most cases, members are free to create their own file folders at will, but the folder needs to be about a concise and defined subject. If the subject matter branches off too greatly from the original, a new file folder needs to be created.

Threaded-message-board software really can't accommodate stream-of-consciousness, thought-snapshot posts. That requires a different type of platform, like Twitter. Besides, if we tried, it would be an absolute nightmare to moderate.

Now I'm off to create a new Topic--a new file folder--for Abraham:

This.

But not before I eat some HEB chicken tamales, along with leftover tater tots from the kids' breakfast.

Skiprr,

As your photo attests, the heartbreak of wet grass buildup is a serious problem.

Next up, how to make mulch.
