Dallas Market Center Gun Show

Post by RPBrown »

My son and his family are in town for the weekend and he is in search of a new rifle. We will be going this morning and get to spend a little father/son/and grand daughter time. I am going to see if there is something I can't live without and may upgrade my grand daughter from her Cricket to many a .223 or .243. At 15 she doesn't want to take her cricket when we go shoot but enjoys shooting most of mine up to and including my 30.06 (she does say the recoil on it is a bit much for her). She really likes my AR so maybe for Christmas?????

Sounds like a great way to spend family time. An AR would be a great gift. Let her look at the different options available, various handguard, stock, and sight configurations. I have only been an AR owner for a few months, but being able to customize everything is really great. I'm really becoming a fan of the platform.

Was this event enforceably posted?

Might be a good way to spend a few hours on a rainy Sunday.

The Dallas Market Hall Gun Show is one of the largest in Texas, sponsored by the Dallas Arms Collectors Association and is only rivaled by the Original Fort Worth Gun Show. Those 2 by far are my favorite gun shows to attend in the Metroplex. Well worth the time driving to spend the day there.

Seems rather ironic, doesn't it?:
Q: I have a CHL, can I bring my Concealed carry gun?

A: The Dallas Arms Collectors Association strongly supports Concealed Handgun Licensees, and we believe you have the right as a responsible citizen to have access to your CHL gun outside of the building. Feel free to bring it, but unload it BEFORE entering the building. You are NOT allowed to bring loaded magazines or loose ammunition in the building.

When you enter the building, your gun will be tied inoperable by our Safety Committee personnel at the door. They will take any loose ammo and put it in a plastic bag and the ammo must remain in the sealed plastic bag while in the show. After exiting the building, you can then reload your carry gun if you so desire.
Good thing they don't plan to sell any magazines or ammunition there!! :banghead:

That's not a 3006 compliant notification, however.

I guess I'll play it by ear

Market Hall's 30.06/07 postings were covered up for the gun show Sunday. Approaching the main entrance there were large corrugated plastic panels covering several window panes around the entrance. On the inside of the glass entry, you could see the 30.06/07 (?) language from the reverse side. I didn't get a photo (sorry!) and I'm not certain if they were 06 or 07 or both, but very clearly they were covered up intentionally.

Upon entering the building, directly in front of me was a place to pay for entry (center) and a ticket taker/entrance (immediately to the right). I did not see the volunteers with the red tie-wraps checking guns (to the left side of the entrance) until I was well past the entrance.

I left my loaded magazines in the car per the event web site, not knowing what would happen at the door. But, I came away from the visit feeling as if I was not notified per 30.06 and/or 30.07 and the event was not working to turn away anyone carrying concealed.

Just my observation and opinion. Not legal advice.

Overall it was a well attended show. I thought the variety and quantity of vendors was a bit better than my last visit to the Will Rogers show a few years ago. I'm not a big gun show guy, but it was a nice way to spend a few hours on a rainy Sunday.

After reading their anti CC policy, I decided not to go. I can buy anything I need online and not have to give up my rights. :mad5
