mpMRI For Use in Diagnosing Prostate Cancer

The needle biopsy method is rife with downsides, like blood infections and missed cancer or false positives.

That said, mpMRI is non-invasive and is about equal in detection without the risk of blood infection.

Ever had it done?

If so, who did it and where?

I did not have one done but reading on it tells me it's not in place of biopsy but prior to. Gives a better location of tumors or if tumors are present, but biopsy still required if they are found. Biopsy will tell if malignant and what type of tumor.
In my case then I would have still had to have the biopsy but it seems to be a great tool for detecting cancer. However, it seems to be pretty expensive.

In 2008, My dad had needle biopsy of lung resulting in pneumothorax/collapsed lung and complications resulting in chest tube and more problems

Last week, My 86 year old uncle for whom I'm currently the caretaker, had needle biopsy of both Pancreas and Liver and only resulted in wearing 2 band aids for a few hours, & not showering/bathing the rest of that afternoon ...no pain really
Post Biopsy which showed a cancer in both Liver & Pancreas, but not the TYPE usually seen there, they did a PET scan to determine if there was another starting location (PET scan after Biopsy) has a radioactive element in SUGAR water and glows anywhere any cancer is ... (You can't eat carbs or sugars days before a PET scan)

My memory was they made a grid of my prostate and took 16 samples each time. I had this done on two separate occasions.

I decided I was glad I was a Sismale - Straight - Heterosexual as I felt afterwards I would not do well otherwise.
