Beware your folding pocketknife!

Beware your folding pocketknife!
Getting back into my truck and reaching for my keys inside my pants pocket-ouch!!
Somehow amid the keys and change my Spyderco knife had partially opened and "tagged" the end of my finger! Luckily my handkerchief and direct pressure stopped the bleeding so no need to see a doc.
And here I am always worried about an accident with my handgun...

... don't leave your handgun half open in your pocket!... (you knew that was coming)

Gonna look into some kinda belted leather scabbard for it or maybe just replace it with my Swiss Army Knife.

I carry an automatic knife, with the safety on.

You should be fine as long as it is not an assault kniferotor wrote:I carry an automatic knife, with the safety on.
Re: Beware your folding pocketknife!
My knife clips to my pocket. With the way it sits the blade would open backwards into the edge of the pocket, not forward into the main part where my hand would go. Plus the one I have now is automatic with a safety on it. So should be doubly safe.

Was your knife loose in your pocket or clipped?
Re: Beware your folding pocketknife!
Benchmade Lerch Impel Gentleman's Auto. Haven't added enough to it to make it an assault knife. I think the thing is actually California legal but I wouldn't swear to that. When I was a kid I had an auto knife and I just love having one now. Those that haven't carried or handled one need to see and try one. So nice to have a quality automatic knife. Benchmade. Great quality. Not inexpensive.Soccerdad1995 wrote:You should be fine as long as it is not an assault kniferotor wrote:I carry an automatic knife, with the safety on.

It was loose. Had no idea it could open like that.Jose_in_Dallas wrote:Was your knife loose in your pocket or clipped?

If I'm reaching in my right pocket, in reaching for my knife. It's there only thing in there.

I've cut myself twice the same way. My kershaw had a flimsy lock that would break often. I've upgraded to hk auto since and haven't had any problems.

This is my method as well, as I greatly prefer carrying "tip up." I carry mostly assisted opening knives, but with safeties removed because of the way I carry.Jago668 wrote:My knife clips to my pocket. I prefer dangerous freedom to safety in chains.

That is why I stopped carrying spring assisted knives. I had one try to pop open in my pocket. I also like to carry them clipped at the top of the pocket, but I get the clips bent a lot.

Memories !!! late 1960s
I did that at age 15 and had a "switchblade" knife in my front pocket (It was legal for me to have under Federal law as I had only 1 hand, though Texas Law may have conflicted with the Federal law exception back then)
I was on a date with a girl at "Westbury Square" in SouthWest Houston off Chimney Rock which as a "Hangout" before 610 and Galleria existed ... when I bumped against a counter in a store and the "automatic" thingy opened up causing pain which had to wait to be adjusted because a Police officer was a few feet away and I didn't care to remove it from my pocket in his presence.
