If you're trying to pull a fast one on Texas DPS, getting the green light from some pre-application service isn't worth much.

I think most people know if they were convicted of a crime that disqualifies them. For other eligibility requirements, like mental health records, I suspect DPS may have access to sources that private investigators don't. The reverse may be true also.
