Should I? Or shouldn't I
Guys I've got a brand new Taurus PT111 G2 that has never been fired. I bought it in February because it was so cheap for a boat pistol and when I got it home I realized that you could fully pull the trigger and here an audible click when the thumb safety was on safe. I sent it back in to Taurus and 8 weeks later they sent it back and the safety now works and I've tried to see if it will fail and it will not. I still have not shot it and I don't want the gun anymore and would like to get rid of it. But I'm scared to let that gun go because I don't want somebody to buy it and something happen and somebody get hurt/killed because the gun failed. Am I over reacting or and I being sensible. It will sit in my safe forever until I'm in the dirt if I continue to own it. I realize that something can happen with any pistol even high end ones but still. Thoughts on what I should do?
Re: Should I? Or shouldn't I
Sounds like the manufacturer fixed it as far as you can tell?
Take it to a gun smith and have them look it over?
Sell it and tell the buyer the story you just put here, then it is with full disclosure?
Personally I don't trust safeties anyway, so I would not hesitate to use it. A hammer or firing pin that malfunctions would get my attention, not so much a safety.

I'm with NNT. I would treat it as a firearm that had no manual safety.

I'll take it off your hands for a $100.
Re: Should I? Or shouldn't I
It could quite well be a menace for those dependent on safeties.
Unload it.
Put in a vise.
Cut up with a hack saw or tool of your choice.
Throw parts into separate trash bins.
Throw out and never buy another Taurus.

If it works but you have no confidence in it, sell it as is at whatever you consider a fair price. Notify the buyer that it was repaired by the factory under warranty, and provide the buyer with copies of any paperwork/documentation indicating such. I would not keep a firearm in which I had no confidence, even if I knew that the lack of confidence is purely psychological on my part and without logic. That lack of confidence might delay my deploying the gun, when it most needs to be deployed, and that can get one killed.
OTH, the person you sell it to may be perfectly satisfied that everything is in order, and have no confidence issues with the gun.

I'd tell the buyer, then if he wants it...
He can always take it to a gunsmith and get it checked out.

I'll give you $100 for it if you want to get rid of it.
Re: Should I? Or shouldn't I
I have one that Taurus sent me after the former model was recalled. It is a good basic firearm. I keep it in my truck. I see no reason for you to sell it as new ones on line can be had for $210 or so and you will not get anything for it. Would make a fine boat gun. If Taurus fixed it and the safety now works what is the big deal? Put some shells in the mags (you will need a Magula) and take it to the range. It is a basic, functional firearm.

Yeah it's just a confidence thing with me. I am gonna sit on what I am gonna do with it for a little bit longer. If I decide to sell it I'll post on this forum first
Re: Should I? Or shouldn't I
I am somewhat in the same boat. I have an old French double barrel, in very clean condition but the sear should be replaced. I'm not a gunsmith but what happened to me couple years ago, thankfully outside and praise Him I followed safety precautions, was enough to almost have to change my britches
I loaded two shells, put my ear muffs on, pointed the shotgun down range on my property, and when I closed it the gun went off!
My finger wasn't on the trigger, safety was on. This is a hammerless model.
So, I'd love to sell it, it really is a nice shotgun, but it definitely needs to be checked by a gunsmith.
If I sold it, I'd provide full "as is" and an written agreement that "it should not be fired until checked by qualified gunsmith" disclosure.
I guess you could do the same in your case.

Re: Should I? Or shouldn't I
I bought a Marlin 1895CB a couple of years ago. It was used from a gun store in the southeast. I had it shipped straight to Mic McPherson in Colorado to check out. Somebody had drilled sight mounts too deep and it could have affected the ability to withstand pressure.
There's no way the seller could have known, as they didn't know. I sent it back to them, got a refund and bouggt a different one. Mic checked that one out and found a crack in the stock under the action. We changed the wood.
When we buy used guns, we have to check them out.
