When replacing a trigger, do you use the original pins or do new ones usually come with the new trigger? I would think the original ones would be fine, but I don't know. This will be my first trigger upgrade.

Old pins should be fine, unless the new trigger has unique hammer or trigger pivot pins (like the ones that come with the nice 'G' decal).

Edit: Also check to see if the 2 original pins or the 2 new pins are identical. The hammer pivot pin may have a slot for the J spring. If so, that should stay with the hammer and don't use it for the trigger pivot pin.

Edit 2: That's not very clear. Mostly what you see are universal pivot pins that work for either hammer or trigger. Depends on the manufacturer of either the rifle or the trigger you've purchased.

I do have a Colt and did have to check those pins. They are both 0.1520 inches according my cheapo micrometer. I was worried when checking into this since I figured based on serial number and all that it would ave been one of those with a large pin on at least one of them. And I am looking at one of those triggers with a G on it.

If you're going with one of the higher end triggers just use the pins they send (sometimes it's required).

Trigger upgrades are fun and worth all the fuss! Just remember if you find yourself having to 'hammer' on things...move 2 steps away from the work bench, take a deep breath, and relax.

Using a 'slave' pin to hold the trigger or hammer in place often makes the task much easier. Slave pin goes in from gun right while the pivot pin goes in from gun left displacing the slave pin. If you're careful, you can also cock the hammer before you place the hammer pivot pin. Makes maneuvering the hammer to get the pin in a bit easier.
