Took the Plunge

Post by thatguyoverthere »

Finally bought my first AR 15.

I've got my handgun collection where I want it to be, now. So after years of hearing people here and other places talk so much about their AR's and AK's, I decided to jump in.

This is my first one, and I know literally nothing about them. But I'm one of those weird guys who actually reads the manual from cover to cover, so no worries there. Plus, my oldest son carried one very much like it pretty much every day for eight years in the Army, and he's excited about showing me how to use it.

I bought a S&W M&P 15 Sport II. Cabela's is running them on sale right now for $599, and that's where I was originally headed. But I checked and found that Bud's had this same model listed for $529 on-line. So I went to my local Academy (in Sherman) and they price-matched Bud's for me. Plus another 5% off that as part of their price match guarantee. Academy list price was $659, but I ended up walking out at $514 (before tax). Sweeeet!

This is the second gun I've bought from Academy recently where they price-matched an on-line dealer for me. I don't know if all the Academy's do that, or even if all the managers just at THIS Academy will do it, but I'm 2 for 2 so far!

Really excited about learning and shooting this thing. Let the fun begin! :woohoo

Congrats. Prices are good right now and it's hard to build one for what the current deals are.

Let the clock begin on getting #2. It will happen, they are like gremlins and some how multiply.

See if they will price match this one and get another.

Nice! I got my first one a few months ago. I actually built the lower then attached it to an upper in the hopes of learning more about its parts and how it operates. I thought building it was more fun than shooting it, and shooting it was pretty fun! Didn't know what the fuss was all about with ARs til I started buying parts and assembling it and then shooting it.

Congrats!
I still consider myself a newbie, with mine even though I have had it a little over a year. It is fun to shoot, and I learn more about it all the time. It does become addictive, buying accessories etc.
