2020 Population estimates is just under 30 Million in Texas. So what, around 5% or so.... I wonder how that stacks up with other pro2A states.

The problem with doing that sort of comparison is that while it may be a small percentage, it doesn't take into account non-residents who obtain or maintain a Texas LTC. People who move out of the state, or people who do business within Texas and wanted a Texas LTC to carry here.

Also have to compare against population of people over age 21, not entire population

Last year was 1,362,945... so there was a 80,250 increase for 2019.

Crime Prevention Research Center has some national stats for 2017:
During President Obama’s administration, the number of concealed handgun permits soared to over 16.36 million – a 256% increase since 2007.

6.53% of American adults have permits. Outside the restrictive states of California and New York, about 8% of the adult population has a permit.
In eleven states, more than 10% of adults have permits. Alabama has the highest rate — 20%. Indiana is second with 15.8%.

Another 14 states have adopted constitutional carry in all or virtually all of their state, meaning that a permit is no longer required. Some people in these states still choose to obtain permits so that they can carry in other states that have reciprocity agreements with their states. However, because of these constitutional carry states, the nationwide growth in permits does not paint a full picture of the overall increase in concealed carry.

Concealed handgun permit holders are extremely law-abiding. In Florida and Texas, permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors and felonies at one-sixth of the rate at which police officers are convicted.
Fact Check:
The Crime Prevention Research Center, for example, lumps the permits that states grant to residents together with permits granted to nonresidents. Examining overall active permits may therefore involve double-counting of Americans who possess more than one concealed carry permit. (Many states, however, have agreed to honor each others’ concealed carry permits to prevent the need for multiple permits.)

The center reported that states have granted active permits to 15.6 million residents, so the real number of permit holders falls somewhere between 15.6 million and 16.3 million, according to its July report. The lower bound translates to 7.7 percent of the adult population outside of New York and California.

Now that Texas LTC fees have been reduced, I would expect the number/percentage of Texas LTC holders to continue to increase.

I ran these numbers for myself yesterday or day before. The figure quoted in the whamprod tweet is total warm bodies. Legal residents are estimated to be about 85% of that figure. About 7 million are under the age of 21.

Looking at the numbers, annual Texas LTC growth is down a bit from the later Obama years. Obama really does deserve a trophy! :biggrinjester:

Exactly.
What does "active" mean? It seems like just a word.
How many carry daily? (no data for that)
How many properly trained? (no data for that)
"How many properly trained? (no data for that)."

Bottom line up front: Fewer than 1% of license holders get significant training beyond the licensing procedure.

No empirical data, but we do have study and research. Karl Rehn, KR Training, has been researching this phenomenon for years. He has presented his findings at TacCon. Karl, along with John Daub, wrote a book.
