DL Checks out-of-state

Post by Penn »

Does anyone know if CHL status is available to out-of-state law enforcement agencies when your DL is run?

I think that each state can only access its own database. So your CHL status would not be available.

Even so, when travelling I always take care to learn the requirements of the staets I will be visiting. If there is a requirement to make a declaration I make sure to follow it, whether my info comes up on the cop's screen or not.

packing.org or a similar site would be a good resource for that kind of information.

Thanks - I know LE agencies are able to get DL info, but I'm assuming they don't havve access to the CHL database. I was wondering if the CHL info was attached to the DL record by TX DPS or if it was a separate check.

CHL Data is maintained in a separate data base from DL info, but a name/dob or DL number check into LIDR (License Issuance & Driver Records) will also check the CHL Data base. The information is then returned as a separate record from the DL return. I don't believe that CHL data is sent out of state on an NLETS (National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System) inquiry, but I would have to verify that.

Is packing.org still a good site for this sort of information? I thought I read it's basically no longer updated and with the recent legislative cycles the legal information could be rather dated.

Just asking...

I think some states require that the CHL and DL databases be linked for reciprocity. I also believe we have reciprocity with some, or atleast one, of those states.

I understand packing.org is no longer being kept current.

I use http://www.handgunlaw.us/
