Hey now...a little respect please. That yimminey cricket.....er....Hernandez....er....whatever it is, is a Kimber compared to my Lorcin.

Praise the Lord I didn't have to pay for it.

I have come to understand that these cheap little guns do serve a purpose - believe it or not. I've met several very poor people who needed protection because they lived in very bad neighborhoods. Given their lack of finances, a quality gun was out of the question. As most of us know, having a gun when you really need one is a lot better than not having one.

One actually took a CHL class with one. The LGS chipped in 50 rounds of ball and 20 rounds of defense for this little old lady. The CHL instructor chipped in his cost. She got the ability to protect herself and we all felt good about helping out.

Awesome shop/instructor.

At the end of the day, in spite of all the caliber/model/petty argument wars, this is what its about.

Still better than a Hi-Point

Surveys have shown that roughly 96.7 percent of people making this comment have never fired a Hi Point (OK, I made that number up...but still probably true). Roughly the same number have never even held one.

I'm not knocking the Jimenez as I'm certain it's the finest pistol with the name Jimenez on it...but it's not better than a Hi Point

As someone who has both held and shot a Hi Point, I can confidently tell you that no matter WHAT the pistol is, its better than a Hi Point.

Try that line on someone else, maybe it will work better next time.

I've had the chance to play with many hi-points, mostly because I had people bringing them too me to show me their cool new gun, and asking to shoot with me. After letting them shoot my XD(S) after shooting a hi-point, every one of them promptly sold their hi-points and bought either real 1911, Glock, or Springfield. This is a Fact. Hi-point is garbage, and a throw-away-gun for bad people IMO.

That is my experience with the one and only person I've ever known to have owned a Hi-point. He showed it to me once, but we couldn't get our schedules together to ever go shoot. However, I told him that I would not shoot it and would let him shoot my glocks. Well, he ended getting out with another friend that had XD's. He sold the HP after that range trip and saved for a few months to buy an XD45.

The somewhat ungainly Hi-Point Model CF cuts an interesting figure with its two-tone finish. We found the gun to be totally reliable, as usual, but top-heavy and with a too-slick grip.

Not the prettiest handgun, the Hi-Point C9 worked every time with the right ammo. We could not fault this pistol. It worked, especially when firing two fast shots in self-defense mode. We liked the powder-coat finish and the adjustable sights, too.

Gun-Tests is the only gun magazine I subscribe to, because they accept ZERO advertising. They purchase all the guns and other products they test from gun stores, so there is no possibility of receiving a specially setup gun that is not representative of the retail market, and the prices they pay represent actual retail, not MSRP. They are the most unbiased source for gun related tests I've ever seen. I've been a subscriber for probably 8 or 9 years now. I even keep my back issues as references.

In May 2006, Gun-Tests paid $140 for the C9 Hi-Point, and they gave it a "Best Buy" rating against the Bersa Thunder 9. The warranty is life-time, no questions asked. Gun-Tests experienced two FTF malfunctions with Winchester SXT ammunition during testing, but otherwise the gun ran well with all other brands, and they were unable to duplicate the FTF malfunctions when they tried to.

I would never own a Hi-Point (because I can afford not to), but I have fired one exactly once - a 9mm - of unknown model# to me. It functioned just fine, but it felt very top-heavy in the hand, and the bore sits quite high relative to the grip (making the name "Hi-Point" very appropriate), which meant that there was more muzzle flip than with say a Glock 17.

But I will say that if I were to advise someone else of very limited means about which 9mm to buy, I would put the Hi-Point C9 on that list. I would never give that recommendation for a Jennings/Jimenez/Bryco POS to anybody. But that's just me.

The American Rifleman had an article on Hi-Point guns. Big, ugly, heavy, AND a reliable gun. I shot a friends 9mm several years ago. It digested 3 different makes of ammo, not one ftf, fte, etc.

OTOH, my daughter had a Jimenez gun. I told her to never fire the gun, as it just looked plumb dangerous to shoot. Have heard to many bad things about that gun and the previous names for it for me to even consider one.

I've held a Hi-Point pistol at a gun show but never shot one, and I've shot their 9mm carbine rifle. It went bang when I pulled the trigger, but it didn't much interest me. I've got another 50rds of .380 on order. I'll do another range test with it and see how it goes.
I know the suspense is extreme but please hang in there.

I just might take it next time...but I refuse to post a picture of me shooting it. Pictures of the target will have to do.

The 9mm yes, the .380 no. The problem with the .380 is it and the 9mm use the same magazines. If the .380 gets knocked around, the rounds can get pushed forward and this causes FTF. For a range gun it is fine and the slide is the easiest to rack of any auto I've owned. Because of the weight it is a pretty soft shooter so I have gotten several folks to try it out after shooting a .22.

I've got a Lorcin LC380 that I bought back in the early 90s. It was a cheap price, it is a cheaply made gun and not very reliable. I tinker with it occasionally. It feeds better than it used to, but the last round always stove pipes.... Lorcin's version of a slide stop It really needs an ejector that is not the firing pin.

It's probably had about a 6-700 rnds through it. Hasn't had much use lately because of ammo availability/price. I reload for it but I'd rather put them through my Bersa.

I won't sell it though I have had an offer that was tempting.

For the OP. Enjoy the Jimenez. It's likely much better than my Lorcin and I have had fun with it. But then I do like to "tinker" with it too. It's a challenge...

Nothing other than my pride... I do a quick inspection before and after shooting it.... both myself and the gun

Thanks, I feel better. I'm going to have to find a day when I'm the only one on the range. Pride, you know. Just me and EMS!

Still in all, I'm curious about how well it will shoot. Wouldn't it be a hoot if I can shoot groups as good as my S&W Bodyguard .380, LCP, or my daughter's Sig 238 can? And if it does that without a single hiccup? I think I'll take some WD40 with me. (Old 22 semi auto trick)

If that happens, well....I might just take out the old Bernardelli next.



I know....nobody knows what a Bernardelli .380 is.
