The words "truck gun" have different meanings depending on location. When folks in an urban area talk about a truck gun, or trunk gun, they are talking about a defensive rifle. Out on a farm, the truck gun is used for critters... personally, my truck gun was a Marlin .30-30. It was up to the task no matter what critter I came across.cmgee67 wrote:I didn't state that the 22 will be my self defense rifle. That is what my AR is for. But its replacing the AR in the truck because I'd rather have it stolen than the AR. I'd actually prefer nothing to be stolen lol. And it's main purpose is for critters.
Agree. Could be used for defense, if need be.cmgee67 wrote:And if I had to I could use to defend myself. This is not a self defense rifle but basically an OSR ( oh _______ rifle ).
I'm sorry, but if the fiance can't handle the recoil of the AR, then something else is wrong. I bet it is more noise related than physical recoil. I've seen children as young as 7 and 8 yrs old handle ARs.cmgee67 wrote:And adults can handle the recoil of an AR but not all of them. My fiancé who is 115lbs soaking wet can't shoot the AR well because it kicks but she can shoot the 22 in the same hole rapidly. So carrying a big gun isn't about the man card. Sometimes a smaller option is ok.
So there is a pro to the .22lr over the AR... much less noise.
Yep, just like AR mags can be taped together in a similar fashion.cmgee67 wrote:And a Ruger Bx mag holds 25 ok?? They can snap together so you have 50'rounds really quick.
True, but even high quality .22lr ammunition is prone to misfire more than surplus 5.56mm.cmgee67 wrote: Rim fire is not as reliable but using quality ammo makes a big difference.
Agree.cmgee67 wrote:This is all a matter of opinions. I personally wouldn't want to get shot with anything.
Don't doubt this one bit. A .22lr can be lethal. However, I bet that deputy was able to return fire, and quite possibly died at the hospital. If I am in a defensive shooting, I want to stop the threat ASAP. I want them down without the ability to return fire.cmgee67 wrote: A buddy of mine told me his friend was a Deputy in Arkansas and got shot with a 22 in the abdomen the bullet bounced around and lodged in His heart killing him.
Personally, I enjoy a good discussion and debate... that is what a "discussion forum" is all about, right? Be kinda boring if we all had the same opinion!cmgee67 wrote: So all in all i understand all of yalls valid points. This is why I like this forum. People can do this and stay civilized. I have been on other cites where such is not the case
