This morning my weather app says it's 12* here, with a wind chill of 2*!!

When I was stationed at Cape Lisburne, Alaska, we went outside in T-shirts and tossed Frisbees around when the temp got up to 0°. Of course at that point we had 0% humidity, which has a dramatic effect on how cold it feels. The Annoyed Man wrote:Wow, you've got it tough! The temp has rocketed up to a balmy 26° over here in the Pineywoods. Tam, how's your RV? Don't let the pipes freeze if they've got water in them. I set the furnace on lowest setting and open all cabinet doors and the faucets. The Annoyed Man wrote:Wow, you've got it tough! Yes, I spent every winter of the late 70's - '90's on the North Slope of Alaska (Prudhoe Bay) working in 40+ below. When it warmed to 0, we did in fact go out of the hanger/quarters and smoke and joke in T-shirts. Felt fine, but also felt a little weird. At +17, like it is at my house, it would be a balmy Spring dayPawpaw wrote: When I was stationed at Cape Lisburne, Alaska, we went outside in T-shirts and tossed Frisbees around when the temp got up to 0°. According to my weather station, at 11 this morning it has warmed to a whopping 23. Was 18 this morning and a wind chill of 6. It was 82 yesterday.

The RV is fine. We actually got it winterized yesterday, right when the temps were starting to fall pretty fast. I was unable to figure out how to get antifreeze into the system, but I did entirely drain the water heater, and all the lines and the fresh water tank at the low points underneath the trailer. We have it stored under cover, and more or less out of the wind. I think it will be OK.Oldgringo wrote:The temp has rocketed up to a balmy 26° over here in the Pineywoods. Tam, how's your RV? Be sure to pour a little of the antifreeze in the p-traps.The Annoyed Man wrote:The RV is fine. We actually got it winterized yesterday, right when the temps were starting to fall pretty fast. It will have to wait until tomorrow. It's 4:30 pm, and I've already got my jammies back on.carlson1 wrote:Be sure to pour a little of the antifreeze in the p-traps.The Annoyed Man wrote:The RV is fine. The swimming pool pump went out yesterday, so had to drain all equipment until the pump can be replaced.
Re: Welcome to polar Texas
On Facebook I commented on the cold temperatures in DFW and my cousin from Minnesota chimed in that it was -20 there at 8:30 this morning. He said it was "balmy" here!

Re: Welcome to polar Texas
Saturday morning my PD had to qualify with our firearms. Thankfully it was warm. I would have hated to been out there this morning. I still need to clean all my firearms. I'll do that this evening while in my pajamas, wearing my heavy armor, watching 13 hours.
