Re: i get laughed at by my coworkers
As said above, I think probably just some good natured razzing.
Reminds me again of experience back in late 1990 that was not so good-natured at the local range/store that some love to hate. Had just got Glock 23 and 1 box of .40 S&W ammo as a birthday present. Shot up that box and went back inside to buy some more. They had none. Honcho laughed and said "That's what you get for buying such an 'oddball caliber' ".

Re: i get laughed at by my coworkers
Yeah I wouldn't worry about it. I learned a long time ago that I do what works for me, and that I don't care what others think. I value the opinion of people that I respect when it comes to recommendations or other things; however, if I make a choice on something as important as my carry piece I make it based on budget, reliability, fit, shootability, etc. No two people are the same, so ignore them and carry what you are comfortable with and shoot best with.
I can find any number of people that say that glocks are terrible, just as many others that say that XDs are terrible. I have two XDs and I love them. I also love my Glock. I even know one guy that says he woudln't carry a Wilson Combat b/c he thinks it's unreliable. I did tell him I'd be happy to take that off his hands

I wonder if it's the same sledgehammer trick they put on me when working at a new construction jobsite back in the college days .... Altho that might be one better suited for the "Waaaaaaaaay Off Topic" forum ...

Hey lunchbox, how many 1911's can match the torture test Para did on its 1911? And that was the standard model! Most 1911's would "rattle" loose from sooo many rounds fired through it. Wow, those Para's are more expensive than my HK was! How do you like your Para?

Re: i get laughed at by my coworkers
There are some people that would laugh at your friends who carry Kimbers and XDs........ya can't please everyone.
I hope they are joking because it gets real old having others bash guns that they don't happen to like personally. Some people seem to always have the NEED to put someone/something down in order to make themselves look good. You think we (gun owners) would all be in this together and be able to just be glad that there are so many gun owners....but there are always those that think they have all the answers and know what guns are best, etc. You've seen it on the forums......it's easy to bash and intimidate and "control" when you're sitting behind a computer screen.
There's lots of good threads on Paras, especially in some of the competition type threads/forums. I had one a zillion years ago (it seems) and really liked it. I don't have it anymore but only because I moved on to something else, not because I had any issues with it. I happened to LOVE the double stack grip and mag capacity.

dont worry about it. People look at me funny for carrying a taurus.
At one point in history nobody had heard of kimber either. I just tell em it's a great product and they're silly if they don't give Taurus a closer look.

Re: i get laughed at by my coworkers
About 400 rounds in, my son's new Taurus PT 1911 snapped its slide stop pin right in half, shooting practice ammo, mostly Monarch 230 gr hard ball.
I gave him the old slide stop lever/pin that came off of my Kimber - which had caused the Kimber to malfunction until I replaced with a new one shortly after I bought the pistol - and the Taurus soldiered on. Nice pistol, but they do break parts, as our experience will tell. Now the Kimber came delivered with a part that didn't work in that gun. The part got replaced, and the gun has run flawlessly ever since. Not even a hiccup. And about 800 rounds later, that old "defective" Kimber part is still working in the Taurus in place of the original broken Taurus part.
I like the Taurus. It's just not perfect. BTW, doesn't Todd Jarrett shoot and push Para pistols? If they're good enough for him, they ought to be good enough for anybody.
