I think it has started
Wed. Nov. 5 2008, I stopped by one of my favorite gun stores at 9:25 AM this morning. Usually at that time on a Wed. 2 or 3 people would be a crowd. Today a dozen or more were shoulder to shoulder and two deep at the rifle counter. Three guys were handling ARs, the ones waiting looked tense. At a pistol counter a guy asked "Do you have any AR lower receivers?" His next question was "How many ya got?" 9:25AM! The place was a little too intense for me this morning. I decided to wait till next week to look at pistols.
It could just be a coincidence, maybe.

OE,
I do not think this is a coincidence. I think supplies of lowers, complete AR's &AK's, not to mention <ags and ammo are going to pretty low for the next couple months

Interesting...
Purchasing my EBR and stocking up on ammo 6 months ago may turn out to be one very good decision!

I have been on the fence about the type and brand of EBR I wanted, but I ordered a new Ak from Lancaster Arms yesterday. The election did not have anything to do with my decision to purchase yesterday. They did say b/c of all the influx of orders it will take an extra week to make it and ship it. I'm a patient person and it will be worth the wait.

I have no doubt that there is a good deal of fear based buying going on. We all know the AWB will be reinstated. However, I suspect there is also a significant amount of opportunistic buying going on. Some of these items may well be worth 2x or more their current value once the AWB hits. I’m not certain this is a good idea though as I saw a report (on this board I think) that said Obama wanted to make the “sale or transfer” of these items illegal. I read this to include private sale or transfer, but I don’t really have the details.

Re: I think it has started
My son just received a DPMS Low Pro upper (no forward assist) with a 16" bull barrel from the big brown truck of happiness this morning. He bought it so that he could switch out uppers on his RRA lower. The other upper has a 24" bull barrel with a good scope mounted. He's going to buy some flip up sights for the new upper.
As soon as I can put aside the $409.00, I'm getting one too for my Bushmaster lower.

What I hear from people in the know is the new AWB won't grandfather anything for the little people.

Re: I think it has started
I just read the text of HR1022 and don't see anything in the Grandfather clause limiting it to any specific category of people.
SEC. 4. GRANDFATHER PROVISION.
Section 922(v)(2) of title 18, United States Code, as added by section 2(a) of this Act, is amended--
(1) by inserting `(A)' after `(2)'; and
(2) by adding after and below the end the following:
`(B) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to any firearm the possession or transfer of which would (but for this subparagraph) be unlawful by reason of this subsection, and which is otherwise lawfully possessed on the date of the enactment of this subparagraph.'.

Furthermore HB 1022 strikes the "manufactured after Oct 1994" clause, meaning it will be banned if manufactured after the date of enactment of HB1022. In my interpretation this means no guns will have to be turned in to the Govt. We do have Ex-Post-Facto in this country (thank you God, and the founding fathers) that prevents many retro-active laws and punishments. (ex post facto laws are prohibited in federal law by Article I, section 9 of the U.S. Constitution and in state law by section 10)
Re: I think it has started
It looks like HR 1022 will still allow transfer of grandfathered "assault rifles". You just have to go through an FFL.. IANAL, YMMV. This closes the so called "gun show loophole" Now that Obsama has taken over both the executive and legislative branches of the government, I expect them to not be satisified with just HR1022 and try to go even more restictive.
SEC. 6. REQUIRING BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR THE TRANSFER OF LAWFULLY POSSESSED SEMIAUTOMATIC ASSAULT WEAPONS.
Section 922(v) of title 18, United States Code, as added by section 2(a) of this Act, is amended by adding at the end the following:
`(5) It shall be unlawful for any person to transfer a semiautomatic assault weapon to which paragraph (1) does not apply, except through--
`(A) a licensed dealer, and for purposes of subsection (t) in the case of such a transfer, the weapon shall be considered to be transferred from the business inventory of the licensed dealer and the dealer shall be considered to be the transferor; or
`(B) a State or local law enforcement agency if the transfer is made in accordance with the procedures provided for in subsection (t) of this section and section 923(g).

The problem is, he's already proved himself. When you examine his record on the 2nd Amendment, it's atrocious.anygunanywhere wrote:Everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves.dwhitley wrote:All these acusations that keep getting posted here are just that and nothing more... dont get caught up in the bull... give the guy a chance then make your call as to good or bad... I tried to order one of those same DPMS uppers for myself like the one my son bought, and they were already sold out.

Re: I think it has started
I would feel better about that if I thought that Obama really believed the Constitution says what it says. He doesn't seem to believe that it does when it comes to matters concerning the 2nd - witness his opinion that Heller was wrongly decided and his ensuing statement that he believes local governments may restrict the 2nd. Neither does he believe what the 1st says - witness his campaign's several attempts to have the FEC haul John McCain into court for his insistence that Obama's long time associations with radicals and terrorists bore looking at. So I don't believe for a New York minute that Obama gives a rip about Article I, section 9 of the U.S. Constitution, unless it can be used to justify his intention to disarm Americans. In THAT case, he'd be all about Article I, section 9 of the U.S. Constitution.KaiserB wrote:Furthermore HB 1022 strikes the "manufactured after Oct 1994" clause, meaning it will be banned if manufactured after the date of enactment of HB1022. I bought a Saiga shotgun and a couple of CMMG lowers today from Military Gun Supply. They were busy and I overheard one of the guys say that they might as well not go to the Gun Show in Fort Worth this weekend because they wouldn't have anything to sell.
Re: I think it has started
Last week, I ordered a lot of 30 round AR15 mags from "bravo company". Today, I noticed that all 30 rounders were "OUT-OF-STOCK". So the run on AWB stuff has definitely begun.
