I'm generally against killing snakes that aren't actively trying to kill me, but my wife was chuckling over a Lewis Grizzard passage earlier this evening:

I have kept this fear of snakes all my life. I stay out of tall weeds, murky water, and the reptile house at the zoo. I don't believe there are snakes that won't bite you, and I don't believe the old axiom that snakes won't bite underwater, especially the dreaded copperheaded water rattler, which is so mean that if you check into a Holiday Inn, it will check into the room next to you and then bite you when you go in the pool.
-Lewis Grizzard, If Love Were Oil, I'd Be About a Quart Low

:biggrinjester:

If Law Dog ever produces a book, I've promised him that it will go on our bookshelf between our highly prized anthologies of Lewis Grizzard and Patrick F. McManus. :cheers2:

Lewis Grizzard was the only reason that I opened our local "news paper' for several years. I still have a copy, cut from the paper, of the "Cordie Mae's Weight Gain Diet". Mr. G was a true entertainer. I also agree with his take on snakes, most of the time.

I am truly in hysterics at this point. You all are good people, and if need be, kill that damn critter! I did not intend to come off so harsh and I believe that you should kill any immediate danger to you and yours. However, I wrote this on the same day my son smashed a fruit fly that flew close to him. We have a no violence policy. We are well trained to defend and avail in our home and would not hesitate to speak up on our own behalf. I just think that if you could have an animal transported rather than killed it would suit our environment greatly!

Thanks Ladies n Gents,
Good Will to all

Here is picture of an 18" critter dispatched out of my backyard with a quick flick of a shovel and flying lessons over the fence. Was walking to turn on the sprinkler and nearly stepped on it. Ran to the garage, checked my shorts and retrieved the shovel and snapped the pick before giving lessons that the Wright Brothers would have admired to the snake. He should have live to see another day but hopefully not in my yard.

Sorry for the poor quality, it was my phone and the odor from my shorts was distracting me.
