Honestly, how can you settle for a sub caliber? A 75 is nothing more than a mouse gun with a lanyard. Everyone knows that the only howitzer with sufficient stopping power is the 155.

You know, as long as we are speculating on what to shoot a car with, I would go with a 75mm Howitzer. Anything you could fire from a pistol or small bore rifle will not stop the car.

And on a more realistic note, firing through the windshield is generally a very bad idea. As we all know, gun shot wounds are very rarely instantly disabling, so shooting the driver will not stop him from doing anything. And in those cases where it does kill the driver, you now have a 3000 lb (or more) missile that is out of control and headed at you. How are you going to stop it?

It looks good on TV and it is instinctive to shoot the threat, but it really is poor tactics. Shoot at the tires or the engine block to stop or slow the car. The radiator shot is a very good way to get a car to eventually stop also.

And the best thing to do is generally just get out of the way of the car. It is hard for a car to turn 90 degrees to hit you as you dodge, no matter how the Coyote and Roadrunner get physics to work.

My dad was a Texas Highway patrolman in south Texas (Duval County) in the late 50's and told me many stories of gun fights at 100 mph.

That was back when DPS officers rode with partners and the local sherriff probably worked for the same guy as the dudes he was chasing. In other words, he was on his own. Different times. Apparently, Duval county was a wild place back then when the Parrs ran the show. I know the Parrs got Lyndon Johnson elected to the Senate but that's another story.

Anyway, he told me when vehicles wouldn't stop they would come up on the side of the speeding vehicle and then try to glance a shot off the pavement and up into the engine compartment. They didn't really care what part of the engine that they hit and simply aimed at the spot behind the front tire and under the driver side door. The cars back then were high off the ground similar to the average SUV is today so it was a fairly large target area. The DPS driver would get within 10-20 feet or so of the car and the partner would open up. My dad's "AR" of the day was the M-1 carbine that I now have. He said with 20 or so rounds of FMJ, he would start to see smoke meaning that the oil pan had been hit enough to leak or perhaps a radiator hose was punctured or perhaps the automatic transmission pan was punctured. All those parts are fairly soft targets. After that, they just backed off and waited for the engine to seize. That way the car was stopped and no one was killed.

Shooting out the tires at those speeds usually caused a wreck and since this was way before seat belts, meant serious injuries.

Holy Crap... I may have a reason to buy something in 50cal now! :)

Also, about .460 Rowland, with a quick Barrel swap, you can shoot it in any _Quality_ .45ACP 1911.
I wouldn't shoot it in a Taurus or a RIA, but Colt, Kimber, Springfield, etc should be good to go.
I've considered getting a kit for a while... It's on my 'list' :)
