Tell Starbucks: Keep Guns Out of its Coffee Shops

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

My little note to Starbucks:
Thank you for refusing to accede to the Brady Campaign's efforts to get Starbucks to prevent law-abiding citizens from openly-carrying handguns in accordance with State law in their California locations.

Gun control is an extremely contentious subject in America, but the Supreme Court recently decided that the Second Amendment is an individual right and that one of the primary purposes of that Amendment is the right to self-defense. An ever-increasing number of Americans are owning and carrying firearms for just that reason. Recent research suggests that firearms ownership in general and right-to-carry laws in specific actually help to reduce crime and pose no danger whatsoever to the general public.

As long as Starbucks continues to support the rights of ordinary Americans and refuses to bow to pressure from anti-rights groups like the Brady Campaign, I will continue to patronize your business and encourage others to as well.

Thank you for recognizing that law-abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional rights and acting within the law present no danger to the public

Between Starbucks and Whole Foods, ( http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 65070.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) my life is getting more expensive.

We'll get to see how this plays out. Hats off to all that sent an email of gratitude to Starbuck's.

Now, I think I'll go buy a pound of Kenyan.

emphasis added above by me

I'm 99.9% sure that a private business cannot ban NON-uniformed police officers from carrying a gun, nor other law enforcement personnel (Feds, state, county, municipal) or licensed security personnel (personal bodyguards) from carrying concealed while wearing "plain clothes".

Frankly, this is the way it should be for CHLs too.
You can make it 100%. LEOs can even carry on a flights if they go through the right hoops and have a need to.

I think some of the restrictions on places a CHL can go are stupid.

It only makes sense that any place a LEO can carry, would not be harmful for a CHL holder to carry.

This made it onto Instapundit (http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/93325/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). That means it will get a much wider play than just on gunboards.

I sent a congratulatory note to Starbucks also.

Somehow, I don't know exactly where and when it started, but there is an assumption by some people in and out of our community, that a CHL or permit carrier in our country somehow magically transforms into a potential Law Enforcement officer just because they are carrying a gun...

I know that sounds harsh, but it is something that is an underlying, low-key issue that some have...

When the shooting starts, and you are not going to ground, and looking for an exit...As your first instinct (at least)...A personal gut-check is in order...

The reason I previously agree with the statement above is that I DO believe it is rediculous to criminalize our carrying in certain places where commissioned law enforcement are allowed to go...Let us decide the necessity, let us decide our safe conduct...If we choose to, or not carry somewhere at some activity, give us the courtesy to practice that judgement, and let the chips fall where they may...

...off the soapbox...

I have had a long discussion with my Glock 21 this evening and I must say she feels betrayed. My G21 is calling the ACLU Monday and asking them to support her suit against the Brady Campaign for discrimination. I must say I agree and my handguns needs to draw the line somewhere, I mean when horses, dolphins, cats and dogs, now have rights, Dammitt people wasnt the civil rights movement all about stopping discrimination. At this point brass, steel, lead and polymer seem to be the target of biggoted racist movements all across the country. When a handgun cant even walk in to Starbucks and order a Frappchino without being turned down, WHAT HAVE WE BECOME!!!!
