Finished Project: Old Ruger in Old Lawrence

Post by doc540 »

Took a while, but I finally put together a rig like I had when I was 17 back in the day.

Nice to finally have the project finished!

1968 Single Six, 4 5/8" in a vintage Lawrence rig, belt and holster.

Beautiful setup!! I had a Ruger Convertible Six (22lr/22mag) with a similar holster setup years ago. I got into doing other stuff and sold the thing to my brother. It got stolen from him. I look back now and wish I had never sold it. It was sweet shooting gun.

My first thought LOVELY... then I guess it would be more like Very Handsome... I like the simplicity very much! Classy!

Very, very nice nice. I am green!!! I had a 6 1/2"Super SS convertible stolen in 1995. I had to have my older brother buy it when I was about 16 in 1963 or 64. It was not in quite as nice a rig. Alamo holster and hand made cartridge belt that I made in HS shop. It was very special to me in a unique way. It fell and hit a rock with a loaded round under the hammer (I knew the rule on SA but ignored it). Anyway it went off and I was shot! Long, highspeed trip to Johnson City Hosp by my best friend. That was in 1966 when LBJ was Pres and I was a local curiosity in the little 8 room hospital because LBJ was at the ranch and rumors were I was either an assassin or a Secret Service guy wounded in an attempt on LBJ. My door would slowly swing open and a head would appear for a moment or two then slowly close. Spent a couple of weeks recovering there. The hospital is no longer there, but I'm still here so you know the ending. I still have the magnum cylinder for the pistol as the only reminder. I have a question for you, Did you already have the Lawrence rig, it is really in nice shape?

What a story!!

I carried mine and shot thousands of rounds without a second thought of leaving an empty chamber. Lucky!!

I searched high and low for a nice, old Lawrence rig and ended up buying first the holster (hard to find for the 4 5/8" guns, but more common for 5 1/2" and up) then the belt from the same guy on gunbroker.

I had to give all the money for gun, then holster, then belt, but it's worth it after all these years.

Old Rugers and fast draw rigs are out there, so go on ahead and buy one cause they ain't gonna get more plentiful or cheaper.

Tell your wife Doc said it's "ok". :thumbs2:

I actually did find a NIB Super SS 22/22mag 6 1/2" old model on Gunbroker. Paid a little more than I wanted but it was just as described. I haven't shot it yet and still don't have a decent holster I would be seen with! Gotta save up to get a Lawrence rig but I'll be lucky if it's as nice as yours and then a belt in my waist size. If you ever run across a SS with a notch on the grip it could be mine!

Congrats on the NIB SS! :cheers2:

Have you seen all the Lawrence rigs on gunbroker? Same guy must have two dozen of them.

He'll fix you right up for about $120-$150 for both belt and holster.
