The Range Officers and Safety Officers were probably shocked by the newbie turnout: I think there were over a dozen of us. And almost 40 total shooters...not bad for a holiday weekend.
I got a chance to chat with Marc, but never introduced myself to Charles: he was whippin' around everywhere on the cart keeping everything organized. And a well-organized event it was. Marc gave all the new shooters a 30-minute orientation, and all the SOs were tolerant of the newbies, carefully explaining that the bullet comes out of
this end.
Seriously, though, what I learned today is that I should have done this years ago. It isn't intimidating once you're there; it doesn't require significant athletic skills; and
anyone can do it.
Practice improves performance, as in anything. I learned new dry-fire drills I need. And I learned I need to practice my reload-with-retention.
If you've hesitated to try IDPA...don't.
Today was very nearly a TexasCHLforum.com day at PSC. Charles and Marc, of course, were on the job. But I know that Jeremae, DustinB, ElGato, Eric, KinnyLee, Dave, Glen, and Jason shot the course. (Educational note to self: Get there early enough next time to watch the SOs shoot all stages; these guys are good.)
When I got home I was so confident in my handgun skills that I checked my Mossberg and made sure it was charged with double-ought and standing nearby...
