I actually didn't go to PSC this weekend. I decided to leave the comfort of my Residence Inn and go to the gun show. I got some 7.62x39 ammo but was very discouraged, and I'll tell you why:
At the show, I asked numerous dealers and even two guys from the Houston Area Gun Collectors whether or not I would be able to purchase a long gun since I was not a resident yet (you can in PA). Boy did I get mixed results. The gun collectors said no, 1 dealer said yes and another said no. I would imagine someone there knew the damn law, but it seemed hopeless after getting such mixed answers.
I was going to pick up an inexpensive Mossberg Cruiser since I left my shotgun with my Father back home, but I didn't think it would have been worth the hassle, even at the cheap price.
Can anyone shed some light on this??
As for PSC, I will hopefully make it out there next weekend. I hate to say it, but I haven't shot my gun since before Christmas, which makes me depressed.

I am the Chief Instructor for PSC, and just wanted to let you know that we have a new member orientation tomorrow night at the club, starting at 6:30 PM. I run the orientations. If you come out you could get some information that might help you decide. There is absolutely no obligation if you do attend.
Just FYI, in case it works out, the orientations last about 2.5 hours overall.
Thanx,

I didn't make it out to PSC either. Come out next weekend and shoot the match. You can check out the club, but most importantly you get to shoot.
I'm not a member of PSC (yet) but I really enjoy shooting the IDPA matches out there. Very challenging shooting.

If guns kill people, then I can blame mispelled words on my pencil

I am certain that you can buy a long gun in Texas as a Pennsylvania resident, without violating Federal law, as long as the long gun is legal in the state of Pennsylvania. And I would be very surprised if Texas state law contraindicates such a purchase. The naysaying dealers and collectors simply did not know any better and did not want to risk the unknown. In their case, ignorance is unprofitable.TheRising wrote:At the show, I asked numerous dealers and even two guys from the Houston Area Gun Collectors whether or not I would be able to purchase a long gun since I was not a resident yet (you can in PA). Handguns are the big sticky point; as most people know, interstate sales have to go through an FFL in the purchaser's home state.

Yaaaaa, so apparently I don't know my way around in the dark.
I got off of work around 6pm and checked the forum here and saw your message around 6:15pm. So, I google-mapped PSC and thought I hade the basic navigatory skills to find the place but I was totally and utterly wrong. I ended up pretty much lost in the Friendswood area. I eventually swallowed my pride and got out my Houston Atlas that I bought last weekend. It came in handy, but by that time it was 7pm.
I guess G.I. Joe lesson I got from this night is (besides knowing is half the battle): Always drive in the daytime in a completely new place.
I really wanted to make it tonight so am am thoroughly dissappointed but I think I will try and shoot in the competition this weekend.
What do I have to do to shoot in the competition???

Gun, holster, mag holder, a few magazines and be ready to have fun! I believe cover is optional if it is your first match. An oversize shirt or your normal carry gear might work. You will find out a bit more about what other people use and be able to ask a lot of questions once there.

My bad, I should have mentioned you can go the the club website, http://www.psc-range.com, and find a couple different maps to the place.TheRising wrote: So, I google-mapped PSC and thought I hade the basic navigatory skills to find the place but I was totally and utterly wrong. As far as the match this weekend, besides the stuff jbirds1210 mentioned, just show up. One correction, during the winter months concealment is required, but a jacket will be more than adequate.
Looking forward to seeing you there ....
