Very slim chance, but a chance nonetheless. I rarely go to questionable areas of any cities, but walking into some random act of robbery or a carjacking can happen anywhere.

Having a CHL and being responsible people the greatest majority of us avoid trouble and bad areas like the plauge, but there is the very, very slim possibility (but a possibility nonetheless) that trouble can find you.

I think the odds of me ever having to shoot are extremely low but considering I live in a rough area of town and work nights I think my odds are slightly higher. I have had 2 of my family members involved in violent crime 1 of which happened in 1989 when my greatgrand mother was beat to death in her own bed in lubbock and the other a few years ago when my sister was raped so I have decided that I will not be an easy victim and will NOT go down without 1 very seerious fight. These 2 incidents are part of what prompted me to get my CHL some call it being paranoid but I call it being prepared for anything just like keeping a spare tire in the car you never plan to use it but it is there if you need it.

The Poll pretty much answers the question. So, since the majority are probably never going to have to use the CHL (we pray we do not), why bother with a CHL insurance? You would probably be better off dropping that money off into a high interest bearing account and using for a real attorney if the need comes up. Just my thoughts.

The chances of my needing my concealed handgun are probably on a par with the chances of my having a house fire.

But I still have and maintain my smoke detectors, and own a couple of fire extinguishers.

I live a pretty low-risk life - Office job, fenced parking lot, live in an almost crime-free neighborhood.

But I bet those people buying Valentines cards in that mall thought they were pretty low-risk also. Since then I've started carrying a spare mag.

i have personaly never thought of what my chances might be if i need to use it, my reason for getting my chl was what if i do ever need to use it to protect myself or family.

At least, that's how I've seen it expressed.

I put high. I have already been in a situation where I needed some lead flingin'. Alas, I didn't have a CHL yet, but was able to escape bloodshed.
all I was doing was helping a buddy of mine move into an apt. wasn't late, and it was in a nice area. never can tell.
since I got my CHL, I've been followed home by an Irate Driving, and have had a few other "incidents" where I was glad I had my PeaceMaker with me. have not skinned my smokewagon, but the thought process was started (ie. "if this guy does this, then I'll do this").

I truly, honestly do not believe I will be involved in another incident like that which happened a year ago. I'm sure GC doesn't imagine he'll have some twisted off homeless guy want to chuck a brick at him again, either, but you have to presume it will, or you won't be able to anticipate it.

I've personally changed so many of my ways of life (a majority due to this site and the "advice" I've attained here), but preemptively assuming I will need my gun, in my opinion, allows me to avoid situations, and/or be ready just in case.
isn't that the same thing as training? seems so, in my mind at least.

Had to use my CHL about two weeks ago. I was in a gun shop when the owner said, "Skin that CHL and see what happens." So I did and walked out with a new toy. Just funnin', but that is one very good use for that thing and nobody got hurt.
