Leatherman Charge TTI or Hunting knife?

I just received a new Leatherman Charge TTI multi-tool. I love Leatherman's MT. This is the second one next to my trusted LM wave.

It came to my mind, that I do not have a nice hunting knife. Should I get one or LM Charge TTI would do the job?
If not what do you recommend for legal hunting knife?

I have a Charge TTi and a couple of hunting knives. I like having both. The Leatherman gets carried everywhere with me, especially when hiking or camping. I use a couple of fixed blade knives and a Gerber Gator folder that I have had since 1995 for hunting and skinning. One of the things I like about the TTi is the fact that is has scissors. I have used these before for various tasks. I would use a different knife for hunting just because it is easier to clean than the Leatherman.

I recently purchased the Leatherman MUT and I experimented with it by using it exclusively as my hunting knife on this years deer hunt. I must say that I had mixed results with a totally unexpected outcome.

My family had taken several deer on this trip so I had ample opportunity to give it a fair go. I will say that in a pinch, it will work. The blade held it’s razor sharp edge the entire time and the little saw cut through bone and other tough tissue well enough. I think I cleaned and butchered three animals with it.

The down side is that I didn't feel all that confident with it. When one takes into account all the blood and cold and how slippery that combination can be, I would much rather have a knife with a real “handle” to work with. I was always self conscious about having it slip or having my hand slip up into the blade and slicing myself. It’s also uncomfortable to hold when bearing down to cut through something or to use the saw. With it being cold, and the non-smooth handle of the MUT, squeezing hard to maintain control causes the handle to dig into my fingers and palm and it can get somewhat painful.

The unexpected outcome is that after all was said and done, it rusted up. After I cleaned up my MUT, I put it on a dish rack to dry with the rest of the equipment. The next morning I folded it up, put it in it’s sheath and went about my business. I pulled it out a couple days later and was surprised to find quite a bit of rust all over the place. The blades are stainless steel but the body and some of the other parts are not. Those were the components that rusted and stained the rest of the tool.

I don’t mind doing a quick wipe with some lubricant to keep the rust at bay but when a product is advertised as 100% stainless steel, I do expect it to go a little longer without rusting up on me. I’ve had Leatherman tools all my life and I’ve never, ever had to worry about rust. I contacted Leatherman and they replaced it without any issue but I won’t be taking it as a hunting knife any more.

As an AR tool, the MUT cannot be beat. All of it's little tools, cutters punches, etc. are top notch.

I use my Spyderco Native for deer, axis, and hogs, don't need much else. I use a Puma Skinner for elk and other game with tough hide.

A surgical-sharp blade long enough to do the task is a major requirement. I hope the knife would do the job. I stopped by Cabela's and checked out a demo version and the blade was sharp-enough.

Hunting by bullets is an innovation. Late Islamic scholars allowed hunting with bullets (round projectile like that of shotgun and early black gun-powder rifles) instead of arrows and spears (i.e., using sharp blades) as long as if the animal is wounded and hunter is able to approach the animal, the hunter has to quickly relieve the animal as described above. It us understood that it is only needed if the animal exhibits signs of life after being shot.
