Went to DPS Sherman Office today and with only 2 employees working and 12 people waiting outside the door for them to open, it took over an hour to get something that should take 10minutes to get done.

Anyway, got the VETERAN designation on my license. As I suspected they could not access their own system to confirm my eligibility since I already have Veteran Plates......

But, I was ready for them with stamped copies of DD-214's and I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't keep them, but scanned them into their system (after checking for official embossed seal).

$11.00 for the duplicate license since I have 3 years left on the current license. They did a new photo and thumbprints though. Wonder if the new picture will be on my CHL when I renew next year.

Thanks for your service to our great nation. Did they do a vision check as well?

Nope, no vision check - only required for renewals.

After visiting an overcrowded DPS licensing office in south Arlington that looked to have at least a 4 hour wait, I proceeded to Ellis county where I found a pretty new DPS office where I waited Approx 30 minutes to process my duplicate license with the Veteran designation. 2 to 3 weeks I should have my new license. Just like AEA stated, thumb prints, scanned DD 214 in, signature, new picture and on my way.

Hopefully this will be recognized in all places that have Veteran discounts. Thumbs up to the State of Texas for getting this done!

Now......if we could just get all those places to combine Vet and Senior Discounts (instead of one or the other) us old Vets would be a bit better off at the checkout.

It would be nice if they would put the "Veteran" designation on the CHL as well.

Did you have to fill out a form, or did you just give them your old license and DD214? Reason I ask is, I would hate to be "next" only to find out I needed to fill out a form.

The location I went to has a check in desk where they ask what you are there for, give you the form you need, enter you into the computer and give you a number. I was called well ahead of other individuals waiting so they must have a system that calls your number based on what you are there for. There was a very short form I had to put my name and address on, answer 8 questions, and sign it.

Like I said this was a fairly new location in Waxahatchie that seemed to have a more modern system in place than some of the other locations I have been involved with.

Update.
Received my new Duplicate License (with VETERAN designation) today. Took exactly 8 days from application to License in hand.

Pretty colorful design (see attachment). :txflag:

Great to know. I'll be doing this next week when I get home.
