Sure!
Everyone should be able to make "One" gun work.
One in the car, One in the bedroom, One in your purse, One for your significant other, One in the kitchen, One thats a Kimber, One thats a Springfield, One thats a Gl__k.
Well......you get the idea.
Spartans ask not how many, but where!

When I do carry a full-size 1911, it's usually in an inexpensive belly band holster, positioned about 3:30 on my right hip, under my belt and shirt. This setup works very well for me tucked, albeit with a shirt with long tails. This allows me to "blouse out" the shirt around the butt of the gun (and all the way around my belt, for visual balance), hiding it rather effectively. My wallet masks the bulge made by the end of the barrel, several inches below my belt. I try to position the belly band so that the grip of the gun isn't resting directly on my belt, but about 1/2" to 1" above it.Boma wrote:Thane, how do u conceal your 1911? I'm the same size as you. Holster carry?
And I move carefully. When you're hiding that large a grip, you've gotta make sure you don't pull the shirt taut over the gun. I reach for high objects with my left hand. When I need to pick something up off the ground, I bend the left knee and stick my right leg out behind me somewhat (To do this, place the left leg forward, right leg about shoulder-width behind the left, and bend the left knee, keeping your back as straight as you can). With proper attention to blousing and ranges of motion, a person can actually carry something -larger- than a Government 1911 in this fashion.

That seems like a hassle every time you want to carry....Thane wrote:When I do carry a full-size 1911, it's usually in an inexpensive belly band holster, positioned about 3:30 on my right hip, under my belt and shirt. I'd have to say my Glock 17 is my perfect gun all around. I carry easily with it (nylon IWB holster, about $10) and it is both accurate and cheap at the range. HOWEVER, I just bought a gen 2 Glock 23 for carry so I may change my mind, but I doubt it.

I bought a Bersa .380 for my Mom a while back. When we went out to the range to shoot it I almost ran off with it. I liked it a LOT, but alas, how could I be an indian giver with my Mom.Venus Pax wrote:I tend to carry my Bersa .380 more than anything.
I can only imagine how well the Bersa conceals. If you don't mind, what kind of holster do you use with it? I am trying to get her to stop carrying it in her purse but the holster she has is a bit bulky.

I have many but the one pistol that fits this would be my Beretta PX4. Although it's a full size pistol, it conceals well. The polymer frame lightens the load for more comfortable carry but the larger mag capacity (17+1 of 9mm) weighs it back down a bit. IWB carry isn't too bad but the mag base was a bit edgy so I rounded it with a file (plastic base plate). I use it for the range, IDPA, home defense and have carried it as well. I've got over 5000 rounds through it with zero malfunctions. I consider it an untra-reliable firearm.
The PX4 subcompact is due out in the coming months. I intend to pick one up for all around use as well. It's supposed to take the full size mags (with a spacer I'm sure...) so it would fit the multi-purpose roll even better.

Yes and no. Learning what ranges of motion were "safe" was the biggest hassle. Now, keeping motion to what is "safe" is almost unconscious.TheRising wrote:That seems like a hassle every time you want to carry....
It was worth it to me to learn how to conceal a full-size pistol on my relatively small frame. Your mileage may vary.
(For what it's worth, my mother is a full 4 inches shorter than I, and also is able to quite effectively conceal a Government 1911, although she prefers her little Colt Defender. She's even concealed a full-size CZ 75, such that you couldn't even begin to guess where it is. Go to this thread to see what I mean. If she can hide that, there's hope for everyone with "concealment issues.")

I, too, would recommend she take it out of the purse and put it on her body. Although the purse is better than nothing, I don't think you can beat on-the-body carry.TheRising wrote:I bought a Bersa .380 for my Mom a while back. I mostly use a shirt tucker kydex holster from CompTac. http://www.comp-tac.com I like tucking in my shirt, as you can move your arms around w/o the worry that you're showing the goodies off.
Other kydex holsters are good too, as they're thin and easy to conceal.
I also use a belly band for times when my outfit will not accommodate a sturdy belt. Think skirts and dresses.
If I can answer anymore questions for her, or if you need me to be more specific, just PM or post again here. I'm glad she's carrying.

Whatever that "one gun" is, the old saying: "Fear the man who owns only one gun, He knows how to use it" should apply. I don't know who invented that phrase but, whoever it was, was very intelligent.
In recent years, I've systematically sold-off most of my handguns ... just because of that old saying. I exclusively carry only one of the two I have left: a Kahr P45
