When I do carry a full-size 1911, it's usually in an inexpensive belly band holster, positioned about 3:30 on my right hip, under my belt and shirt. This setup works very well for me tucked, albeit with a shirt with long tails. This allows me to "blouse out" the shirt around the butt of the gun (and all the way around my belt, for visual balance), hiding it rather effectively. My wallet masks the bulge made by the end of the barrel, several inches below my belt. I try to position the belly band so that the grip of the gun isn't resting directly on my belt, but about 1/2" to 1" above it.Boma wrote:Thane, how do u conceal your 1911? I'm the same size as you. That seems like a hassle every time you want to carry....Thane wrote:When I do carry a full-size 1911, it's usually in an inexpensive belly band holster, positioned about 3:30 on my right hip, under my belt and shirt. And I move carefully. When you're hiding that large a grip, you've gotta make sure you don't pull the shirt taut over the gun. I reach for high objects with my left hand. When I need to pick something up off the ground, I bend the left knee and stick my right leg out behind me somewhat (To do this, place the left leg forward, right leg about shoulder-width behind the left, and bend the left knee, keeping your back as straight as you can). With proper attention to blousing and ranges of motion, a person can actually carry something -larger- than a Government 1911 in this fashion.
I bought a Bersa .380 for my Mom a while back. When we went out to the range to shoot it I almost ran off with it. I liked it a LOT, but alas, how could I be an indian giver with my Mom.Venus Pax wrote:I tend to carry my Bersa .380 more than anything.
Yes and no. Learning what ranges of motion were "safe" was the biggest hassle. Now, keeping motion to what is "safe" is almost unconscious.TheRising wrote:That seems like a hassle every time you want to carry....
I, too, would recommend she take it out of the purse and put it on her body. Although the purse is better than nothing, I don't think you can beat on-the-body carry.TheRising wrote:I bought a Bersa .380 for my Mom a while back. I can only imagine how well the Bersa conceals. If you don't mind, what kind of holster do you use with it? I am trying to get her to stop carrying it in her purse but the holster she has is a bit bulky.
