I might have had a uniquely bad experience there?

I found it cluttered, difficult to navigate, filled with foul language, overrun with immaturity, and far too welcoming of mean-spirited posts.

In fact, my experience there convinced me that this is the only gun forum I need.
While there indeed may be some decent information to be found on ar15.com, I stopped going to that site some time ago for a couple of reasons. One, the slams against one another get WAY out of control. A heated discussion is one thing, but the way they go at it is just irritating. Two, they are AR snobs, IMHO. If you AR is not from one of a small handful of manufacturers, you might as well take it and bash it to bits because it obviously won't work and will probably just blow up, to hear a good many of them tell it. If they were all Special Forces guys who needed the very best to function each and every trigger pull on full auto dumps during hours long firefights, I might understand that attitude...but I'm taking a stab in the dark and saying that they aren't.

Obviously, JMHO, YMMV.

A gun forum I often visited in the past and did learn a few things from was called "The High Road". Haven't been to it in a long time and not really sure what goes on over there anymore.

Yes, I have had poor experiences from that forum as well. I can't stand the general attitude of most of the posters on the forum and the search function might as well not even exist. I get on texashuntingforum from time-to-time, but watch out for the "Fudds" if you decide to post. Some people see the world a little narrow for my tastes.

Forgot this one (Defensive Carry)
Moderators can be a bit abrupt but the alternative is to let the site run wild and drive adults with adult opinions away.
Too many forums allow too many 15 year olds who dream of being a vigilante to spout nonsense about how they modified the gun of their dreams and shot all 16 from their Glock in the 10 ring from 50 yards.
Go away, join the Marines, get another tat, cut your hair, doctor your pimples, then come talk to us after your 2nd tour in Afghanistan.

First, agree totally that Charles and friends run a well oiled machine here and it's always good for something new and interesting. But all of us need relief from time to time and I find it at bayoushooter.com and glocktalk. Bayou, as you might suspect is in Louisiana and manages to fulfill every expectation of Cajun stereotype you could expect.
If you're a reloader, Cast Boolits castboiolits.gunloads.com is king of the hill.
If you want to be flamed, insulated or downright challenged to a fist-fight, Texas guntalk will supply your every need.

Make that "castboolits.gunloads.com sorry

I'm actually a big fan of TGT, especially the way they encourage meetups. Several groups have formed that get together to shoot about once a month all over the state.

Big problem, though. They recently had either a software changed forced on them by hacker damage or they tried to do an update. It is now *so* much harder to navigate and follow conversations that I'd expect other Texas-centric forums to start picking up some readers as people start giving up on TGT. I just wish the best of luck to the guy who runs it and hopes he manages to get it back on track sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I used to visit TGT a lot also. Never got flamed or insulted, though, but I never really posted that much anyway. Real shame what happened to their forum.

We met a great group of people at the range a couple of weeks ago. They have monthly shoots in Dallas, Houston and SA. Their forum isn't nearly as busy as this one but like I said they are a nice group. http://texasgunowner.com/forum/forum.php

Why , Yes, George. ;-)

I love to shop the gun forums. Someone is always putting up something I like.
Plus, I love to expose myself to more firearms. I have already admitted my addiction, I am now simply feeding it.
I will surf the TexasHuntingForum (great place if you need field guns/equipment), like to peruse Texas Gun Trader, and looking to learn a few others. I prefer Texas forums, because I know that Texans have a lot of firearms, and if there is a competition or meet-n-greet, I could participate.

This has nothing to do with TxCHLForum. Yes, this is a great forum and I have several friends here.
I am just looking to expand my horizons. Heheh.

If you enjoy shopping for guns I recommend http://www.2coolfishing.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It is a fishing/hunting forum with lots of general interest discussions. They have an excellent classified sections with lots of gun sales in the Houston area.
