Gun Project of a Different Sort - Blade Runner

Post by trentwhite778 »

Hey guys, I'm aware this may come across as a bit odd to some of you, but hopefully you'll get a kick out of it and appreciate it for what it is. One of my other hobbies is a bit of a strange one to most. Apart from guns, I also love movies; more specifically the art of film making, the behind the scenes, the set design and prop making. I'm part of a worldwide group of movie prop fans that research and replicate items from our favorite films. For me, it's mostly Star Wars (NERD!!) "rlol" but I've also always been a huge fan of the 1982 film Blade Runner with Harrison Ford and Sean Young.
As far as movie weapons go, the Blade Runner blaster that Harrison Ford's character uses throughout the film has to be my all time favorite in terms of design flow and the perfect mix of sci-fi and realism.
This gun was originally based off of 2 guns. A Charter Arms .44 Bulldog and a Steyr rifle (not sure of the model). It was then spiffed up with various parts, lights, etc.

Through my contacts with this group of prop collectors, I was made aware of a small team of enthusiasts that just released a very limited number of kits to build a very accurate replica of this gun with expertly crafted parts. This will NOT be a working replica, unfortunately. Although I could easily substitute a real Bulldog frame and make it a shooter, that's not what this project is about. Rather, this will be a glorified paper weight to sit in a display case and admire. :coolgleamA:

For those of you unfamiliar with this gun, here are a few pictures from the film, of the actual screen-used prop, and of other replicas.

I should be receiving the kit hopefully this week and I will try to document the progress. Hopefully, this will be at least somewhat entertaining to most of you.

Good Luck with your project. I look forward to seeing the completed piece. The big question though is, Rachel or Pris?

my favorite movie. I have one of the square highball glasses made for the movie like what Harrison Ford drank from in his apartment. Good luck!

awesome, is it a real Cibi? Those things are expensive! Any idea where you got it? I was thinking about having a few small things to display around it like his wallet/badge, origami unicorn, photos, baggie with the snake scale in it, etc.

Neither. Too much drama. I'm a Leeloo kind of guy. Now that's a girl that knows how to have a good time!

Very cool pistol though!

I spent the last few evenings working on it and I think I'm pretty much done.
All in all I'm very pleased with it. The underlying Bulldog frame is plastic so I may have a buddy machine a steel barrel for it later on.
Here are some pics of the progress.

Very Cool. My glass is made of crystal by the same company that made the prop. It was a gift, but I did find one web site in the UK that you could order from, last time I looked they were backordered, and they are pricy, about $85. Don't have the bookmark unfortunately. I also have all five versions of the movie.

Yeah, Cibi is the company that makes them, and yeah they're crazy expensive. I'd like to get one to display next to the gun, but I don't know if I can justify $80+ for a highball. :biggrinjester:

I finished dirtying it up and dyed the grips a little darker to more closely match the real on. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it.
