Federal Agent Requirements

There was some talk of fee reductions for military members during this past legislative session. I don't know how it turned out though. You could check under the thread dealing with that issue.

well, truthfully, I hadn't thought about it being easier to buy.

She is attending a one year long school with the AF where she will have to turn in her creds while attending. I just thought she might be able to skip the class or something???

I do not think she is a Peace Officer (or Special Investigator for that matter), under Texas Law, and thus is not entitled to the CHL Class bypass. As a member of the Military, she is entitled to the Military discount.

I do not think she is a Peace Officer (or Special Investigator for that matter), under Texas Law, and thus is not entitled to the CHL Class bypass. As a member of the Military, she is entitled to the Military discount.

In Texas, Feds are not considered to be peace officers under the law (they are in Arizona and in Cali). However, RETIRED Feds do, indeed, get a bypass on the CHL class.

I've never seen the point in this. It's the easiest shooting test ever, requires a single box of ammo, and takes like 20 minutes. It's way more trouble to get exempted from it than to actually do the thing.

Under Texas law, SOME Feds have status called "Special Investigators" and DO have much of the legal status as Peace Officers.

PERSONS. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this
subchapter, a person may not be required to complete the range
instruction portion of a handgun proficiency course to obtain or renew
a concealed handgun license issued under this subchapter if the
person:
(1) is currently serving in or is honorably discharged from:
(A) the army, navy, air force, coast guard, or marine corps of
the United States or an auxiliary service or reserve unit of one of those
branches of the armed forces; or
(B) the state military forces, as defined by Section 431.001;
and
(2) has, within the five years preceding the date of the person's
application for an original or renewed license, as applicable,
completed a course of training in handgun proficiency or familiarization
part of the person's service with the armed forces or state military
forces.
(b) The director by rule shall adopt a procedure by which a license
holder who is exempt under Subsection (a) from the range instruction
portion of the handgun proficiency requirement may submit a form
demonstrating the license holder's qualification for an exemption under
that subsection. The form must provide sufficient information to allow
the department to verify whether the license holder qualifies for the
exemption.

She might not be a member of the Military. About 12% of USAF OSI agents are civilians.
