Federal Agent Requirements
My wife is an Air Force OSI agent (credentialed federal law enforcement agent). Any different requirements for CHL? Any particular good deals for military?
Thanks

Re: Federal Agent Requirements
I do not think she is a Peace Officer (or Special Investigator for that matter), under Texas Law, and thus is not entitled to the CHL Class bypass. As a member of the Military, she is entitled to the Military discount.jlrmhilton wrote:My wife is an Air Force OSI agent (credentialed federal law enforcement agent). Re: Federal Agent Requirements
In Texas, Feds are not considered to be peace officers under the law (they are in Arizona and in Cali). However, RETIRED Feds do, indeed, get a bypass on the CHL class.Renegade wrote:I do not think she is a Peace Officer (or Special Investigator for that matter), under Texas Law, and thus is not entitled to the CHL Class bypass. If she has evidence of current military qualification with a hand gun she may be able to skip the range portion of the class.jlrmhilton wrote:well, truthfully, I hadn't thought about it being easier to buy.
She is attending a one year long school with the AF where she will have to turn in her creds while attending. I just thought she might be able to skip the class or something???
I've never seen the point in this. It's the easiest shooting test ever, requires a single box of ammo, and takes like 20 minutes. It's way more trouble to get exempted from it than to actually do the thing.KRM45 wrote:If she has evidence of current military qualification with a hand gun she may be able to skip the range portion of the class.jlrmhilton wrote:well, truthfully, I hadn't thought about it being easier to buy.

Re: Federal Agent Requirements
Under Texas law, SOME Feds have status called "Special Investigators" and DO have much of the legal status as Peace Officers.nuparadigm wrote:In Texas, Feds are not considered to be peace officers under the law (they are in Arizona and in Cali). She might not be a member of the Military. About 12% of USAF OSI agents are civilians.Renegade wrote:As a member of the Military, she is entitled to the Military discount.
