FILs is a 1943 Colt with matching SNs on the frame and underneath the firing pin stop plate. My understanding is often the slides would get swapped out for varies reasons and in many cases these numbers do not match. Colts between serial number 710001 and about 1139XXX have the serial number underneath the firing pin stop plate. The Annoyed Man wrote:I have my dad's issued 1911 — a 1943 Ithaca. The FIL got smacked back in the day every time he picked up something with his left hand. Till the day he died he could not walk by a Nun without mumbling something under his breath.
He loved his WWII military issued 1911 - not sure what he would think about that thing.
BTW, was lucky enough to get his 1911 after he passed - complete with the holster, several mags, and some of the ammo he was issued during in the 40s.
Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.

True, my muscle memory is for using the right handed controls but I could never get the index finger slide stop lock thing to be natural so if I ever had to lock the slide back I do it right handed and then pass the pistol to my left. I don't know how natural locking the slide would feel in my left hand though...
