Actually, rounds like the Hornady Critical Duty +P 9mm rounds meet all FBI barrier penetration tests. There have been several advances in 9mm technology over the last 10 or so years, not to mention more knowledge about what stops badguys when lead moves around quickly (and the continuing myth of "stopping power" in pistol rounds). My expectation is that 357SIG and 40S&W will gradually phase out from duty use, but you'll still find organizations that use it, just like you find organizations that still use 45 ACP.CC Italian wrote:Sure it is, but other then barrier penetration do you honestly think it is that much better then a 9mm+p? I don't! Just like when people tell me the 10mm is so much better then the .40S&W for so called stopping power and there is a bigger difference between .40 S&W-10mm then 9mm+P-.357 sig.

I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

Well, if they go back to the 9mm, I guess they will have gone full circle. I know 9mm is so much better now than it was during the Miami shootout incident, but if I remember correctly the Bureau got away from the 9mm because they were outgunned by the bad guys in that incident which precipitated them to try the 10mm and subsequently go to the 40 .carlson1 wrote:I read somewhere that the FBI was thinking about switching to 9mm. If I were going to choose between a 10mm and a .40, I'd go with the 10mm simply for the increased versatility. The difference in weight and dimensions between a Glock 22 and a 20SF for instance is not that much, and capacity is the same, and yet you have so much more versatility with the 10mm. That said, I wouldn't be choosing either caliber in a primary carry weapon.stash wrote:Well, if they go back to the 9mm, I guess they will have gone full circle. But there have been significant advancements in bullet design and powder formulation since that FBI shootout, and 9mm can be a seriously effective SD choice. I personally still prefer carrying a .45 because I shoot it better than 9mm, but I do own and carry a 9mm pistol occasionally and I don't feel under-armed with it.

Jack Reacher prefers to kill BG's with the Berretta 96 in 9mm parabellum EXCEPT when he's rubbing them out with his bare hands or elbows.

Waitasec... the 96 is a .40, the 92 is the 9mm... or am I not catching a reference?
