Now on to the techie stuff - blade material?

All I know is that they are stainless steel, but I don't know the details of type or hardness. He says they are pretty hard because we were talking about what it would take to put his brand on them. He is learning now how to forge his own blades from barstock, but for the moment, he buys the shaped blanks and small parts from a supplier, makes the micarta himself, assembles the knives, and puts the edge on them. He's also designing some kydex sheaths.

My son just texted me answers to some of the questions.......

that is pretty impressive. Excellent craftmanship. Does he have a website?

He hadn't really thought about it until he saw your question, and his answer to me just now was, "I don't know about a website, at least not for a while. I don't think I could keep up with orders, unless I just made what I wanted and sold them instead of taking requests. We'll see."

He says his next project is going to be a short sword.

I really do like the hollow ground drop point blade .... a lot :)

These three use the same blade as mine. The white one was a "proof of concept", but it didn't turn out as well as he had hoped. He has since gotten better at the technique, but it is labor intensive and one like that would cost a lot more than $150.00. The blue one was made for his boss's son for Christmas, and the red one was for his boss for Christmas.


This one is a skinning knife he made for his brother-in-law, also a Christmas gift:

I don't know what he would charge for the Kukri or the skinner.

I assume you meant photographically? It certainly does. It's kind of like with guns......the muzzle always looks bigger than it is when the barrel is pointed toward you rather than away from you.

I'd also be interested. I've got one similar to the last pictures you posted. Maybe not quite as long. I use it for a fish/skinning knife. It does a pretty good job, but I didn't pay much for it and I have to sharpen it once in the middle of skinning a deer. I guess that's not bad. But I'd like one with better steel that could finish the job without having to be sharpened in the middle.

Yes - when I saw the first photo of the bread knife, I thought "What kind of bread is she going to cut with that, bread sticks?"

(and yes, "changes".)

Also, it is interesting how much "pointier" the kukri looks in the second photo compared to the first. That's a nice knife.
