Austin get-together: range shooting 07/21, IDPA 07/22
Moderators: carlson1, Charles L. Cotton
So the range get-together is in 2 days. So far it's bburgi and myself. Anyone else making it out?
TX Rancher: how's it looking for you?
Anyone who is planning on going, let me know and I'll PM you my phone number in case you need directions or want to confirm that we're there. The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms, but it doesn't look like there will be any kind of lasting rain.

I've been trying to get people to show up to the Austin Rifle club, even though it's in Manor... but guests are free and it gives you a chance to see if you want to join. I guess the thing is you aren't allowed to draw from a holster at the ARC but they allow all calibers, handgun and rifle and you can shoot FMJ.jhutto wrote:How come the Austin Get to gether is in Bastrop, and the Austin IDPA is in ...New Braunfels Gosh. What about Austin??? Whatever. I will try to make the Sunday GIG. It depends how long my work takes me to finish.
As far as the Saturday Sunday events, it turns out I'll have to pass on both, but I'll probably got to ARC the following weekend.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

Just a heads up to double check the status of the match (IDPA-Sunday). Texas Tactical was hosting a "two-day" match, and the Saturday one was just canceled due to rain. The Sunday one (the one most of you are heading to) is currently still on.
Note, this is for the IDPA match, not the Saturday shoot at Lone Star Range.

Because there are no decent ranges in Austin. These are about as close as you can get. Manor is about the same distance as Bastrop, for most folks, and I'm not yet a member of ARC, so I can't set up a shoot there. There is only one range IN Austin, and that's Red's. Personally, I'm not going to pay $13/hr to have a social event at a range where no one can socialize. All other options are out of town (Pflugerville, Leander, Bastrop, New Braunfels, Dripping Springs), and the Lone Star range is the only one that allows drawing and moving.
Shoot is today at 10:00am. I'm leaving here shortly and will be there at 9:00. I've been watching the weather and radar, and it looks like everything is staying well west of us for the time being. If you see this van, I'm there:

I'll be wearing a red shirt and black pants.

Well, I am still planning on being at the shoot tomorrow, but I may not get to actually shoot at all.
I hurt my shoulder a few weeks ago and finally got the MRI results and doctor's visit. I had dislocated it and broken a few bones. He gave me a cortisone shot and some medicine and six weeks of therapy before he decides to operate. I have been getting by since the injury with very little trouble. Today, after the cortisone, I can barely move my arm at all.
If it is better tomorrow, I will shoot, but I will be there unless it is canceled for rain.

PS Typing with just the left hand when you are right handed is a real pain.

Sorry to hear about your injury Steve.
I know what it is like to have shoulder problems.
I hope that all will turn out well for you.
Spartans ask not how many, but where!
Well, as of 8:00PM Saturday, the Sunday mathch has not been cancelled. If it is not cancelled, I will be there.
If everyone will keep checking here, I will try to keep everyone in the loop on the status of the match.
I'll check the Texas Tactical website later tonight and early (0700-0745) in the morning and post on this thread if the match gets cancelled.
I plan to get there right at 0900 and will hang out by the sign in table. I'll have an old Texas Tactical name badge that says Carl Wood. Grey hair, 6'0" 250, glasses. I think my youngest daughter is going to be with me, long brown hair and an A&M cap. Everyone new to IDPA should be there by 0915 to attend the new shooters meeting.
Ask at the sign in table to be grouped with the Texas CHL Forum folks. If there are not too many new (to IDPA) folks on the squad we can probably all shoot together. If there are more than 3-4 "new shooters" we will probably be divided up in to a couple of squads. It is a matter of safety and flow of the match. It will be good if the weather holds. Looking forward to meeting some of you fine folks.
