Mossberg Maverick FTF

Post by papajohn1964 »

I bought my Maverick just after Christmas and put a Phoenix Kicklite Stock on it. I took it to the range for the first time yesterday and had major issues.

I loaded 5 rounds of Winchester 2 3/4" 7 1/2 shot aimed and fired, first shot was good, pumped another round pulled the trigger and click, :headscratch pumped another round and click :headscratch next 2 shots clicked. I loaded 5 rounds of same size Remington and all 5 went click. Loaded some 00 buck and the second one fired but all the rest clicked. I kept trying and it would fire some but mostly just clicked. I did get it to fire all 5 shots one time but mostly just click! :headscratch I did notice that when I got a FTF that when it clicked if I let off of the trigger I could pull it again and get another click without pumping it. There was another guy there so I asked him to shoot it thinking maybe I might be doing something wrong but it did the same thing with him so it's not me or the ammo,

I am going to call Mossberg tomorrow but I wanted to get feedback here first.

I had a Maverick that did the same thing. I traded it for a 500 and never looked back. :thumbs2: You get what you pay for.

You traded it or you just bought a 500?

I traded it and was open about the problems. The dealer I traded to said he would fix it and then sell it. He said that he had seen a number of Mavericks doing the same thing and knew how to fix them. He offered to fix mine for free but I had lost all confidence in it by that time.

I did quite a bit of research on this gun before I bought it and never heard of this problem in any of the reviews. Maybe Mossberg will offer a trade up or something.

Ditto here. I just bought one at a pawn shop for trading. I haven't had a chance to shoot it., but it's in really good condition so I just assumed it was good to go. I'd be interested in any fixes in case it doesn't go boom.

EDIT: I should add that I did check it with some 2-3/4 for feed and had no issues. Havent' tried 3". also I used snap caps with scotch tape over the primer spot to check feed and firing pin stikes on any gun I buy and there were indentations that looked deep enough for ignition.

Mine is at Mossberg being repaired now. It took 4 phone calls and 9 days to get the shipping label from them and now they are saying 2 weeks for the repair! Not very good considering its a BRAND NEW shotgun. If its a easy fix maybe they should contract local shops to fix them.

That is very concerning. I don't think that I would trust it as a self defense weapon.

A question for the OP. Did you strip the weapon down?

I have the same shotgun and have never had an issue with mine. I have taken it shooting skeet a few times and several trips to the range and has always operated fine. I would be curious of the fix as well for future reference should I have a problem.

Got it back yesterday and the receipt says that they replaced the trigger assembly. I'll find out on Sunday if it's fixed.

Looking forward to hearing the range report. I still haven't been able to get to the range to check the Maverick I bought. I have to do it ASAP because I'm working a trade for vintage Rem 1100 20ga.
