New tool

Post by longtooth »

I cant remember when was the last time I bought a gun just because I wanted it. Everything has been for investment & profit, personal defense, student training on the range ....
I have wanted a Ruger Gunsite Scout for a long coupel of yrs.
:hurry: I have one now & will go shoot it in the morning again. :hurry:
We need a rifle shooter too :fire :fire :fire

Welcome to the club! I love mine, and it's a keeper.

I'm pretty much a lever gun guy, but y'all have just nailed the only non-lever gun on my wish list. The again, those of us that are cheapies are holding out for the Ruger American "compact" in .308 .... even if it doesn't have the big, hangie down clip thingie

(that would save enough money for another lever gun to boot)

Funny...... Lever guns are what I most often compare the RGS to. They essentially fill the same role, except that the RGS fires a more modern cartridge of rebated rim and spritzer bullet design, and the larger capacity of a removable box magazine. But both designs are as simple and reliable as an anvil, light, handy, quick to deploy, and designed around iron sights with scopes being an afterthought.

I've been watching "Ruger Inside and Out" t.v. show./infomercial...

You guys watch it too?

The last one I watched featured the scout and I have to say it really made me want one.

Longtooth, one piece of advice: order the polymer magazines from Ruger's website. They come in 3, 5, and 10 round configuration. Even the 10 round one is shorter than the supplied 10 round metal magazine. The metal magazine cannot be top-loaded in the gun, which was actually one of Col. Cooper's specifications for the concept. The rounds have to be slid horizontally into the magazine, so reloading it is cumbersome. The polymer mags can be top loaded just like and AR magazine, with the mag in place in the gun. Plus, the polymer mags stagger the cartridge column, which is why they are shorter than the steel ones. Also, they cost less than the steel ones ($40 each versus $75 each). http://shopruger.com/Gunsite-Scout/products/2140/

In addition to the 1 10-rnd steel mag that came with the gun, I've got 3 10-rnd and 2 5-rnd polymer mags.

And darn it! Wouldn't you know..... I go to the Ruger website to get the link for the magazine page, and I see that they now sell the RGS in 5.56/.223 with a 1:8 twist. There goes another $900. :grumble

TAM, I did not like the magazine from day one. I got 2 of the 10rd Polymer mags from GT Distributers. They were 29.95 from them. I like them so much I will probably get s couple of the 5s too.
Good to know about the Top load feature on the Pmags. Good lookin rig you got there too sir.
I learned of the 5.56 version a couple of weeks ago. That one wont bother my mind or pocket book either. I am pretty satisfied where I am right now. I dont know anything I even want & sure cant come up w/ a need.
I am blessed.
BTW, no pics cause yall know how tech challenged I am but after bore sighting it I took 3 shots to dial it in then 2 side by side. There is paper between the holes but just barely. W/ my authritis & resting on a towel I will live w/ that. I am too old to get a led sled & if I cant hold it still enough I will let my son shoot it..

I love mine too. Rugers in general are pretty addictive. I had to get some of the polymer mags. Probably need a couple more.

One of the GPs is a .327, sweetest shooting gun I own. The Bisley is a 45LC. RAR is a .22mag and below that is a 77/357. I almost bought a blackhawk in 357 today at the show but found a new 92fs for $500 new.
